Rich characters in conflict with each other and with the landscape. Nicholas Evans' The Divide, is well written but not as compelling as The Smoke Jumper or The Loop. This is one family's story to come to terms with each other's flaws and identities. An affair, a divorce, a daughters felonious activities, a son's coming of age.
The first third of the novel in written in the present, the middle third is written in flashback, and the last third is back in the present. I think Evans could have structured the narrative a better way.
